AGAINST THE GOODS LIFE IN DEFENSE OF THE PLANET AND PEOPLE

When BELEM World Social Forum in January 2009, these indigenous organizations called for a "mobilization global fight for Mother Earth and against the commodification of life "during the week of October 12 to 16 . Launched the world's peoples, it is a call that requires to take urgent action to change the development model that threatens to destroy life on the planet.

The 4th Summit of the Peoples of Abya Yala (native name of Mother Earth), which was attended by 6500 delegates from 22 indigenous nations of the Americas in Puno, Peru has also launched, in his statement of May 31, 2009, a call to organize one-day international defense of Mother Earth October 12, 2009, and an Alternative Summit of Indigenous Peoples, at the Convention of Climate Change in Copenhagen in December 2009.

October 12 marks the beginning of the invasion of the Americas and the genocide of peoples but also recalls the first five centuries of struggle and resistance. It is a traditional tribute to those who have suffered the consequences of the conquest and European colonialism, and a high point where indigenous peoples maintain their rights and territories. It is also a day of solidarity with those peoples who live new conquest by multinationals who hijack and destroy their territories to threaten their very existence, on behalf of a development policy that is consumerist and capitalist now lead to a global food catastrophe, social and environmental. In contrast, indigenous peoples defend an alternative to life by finding their roots to project into the future: It is the "Good Life" based on local production, caring and friendly environment, humanity and culture.

From October 10 to 17, in various places on the planet will be mobilizations, actions and cultural debates. In France, in response to the call, our organizations will gather for a week of solidarity. It will be heard directly the expression of representatives of indigenous peoples to share their struggles, claims, discuss the challenges we face together: the struggle against the commodification of life and property in common, the militarization territories and the criminalization of social struggles and the construction of "living together" in peace and social justice, food sovereignty and the preservation of the planet.

This week will also be an opportunity to express our strong solidarity with the struggles and demands of indigenous peoples and to demand justice for all indigenous activists imprisoned or persecuted like Leonard Peltier in the United States or Alberto Pizango Peru.
